Across Hotham, we have countless examples of local people, organisations and groups doing amazing things and making a positive impact on our community and our country.

From celebrating cultural events, succeeding in academic and sporting life, giving their time to incredible causes or being part of interesting projects, here are just some of their stories.

If you have a local story or a Hotham hero to share, please email me at [email protected]

Sally is a talented Clayton South small business owner who creates stunning candles and homewares.

Born with a visual impairment, Sally turned to creativity during COVID and Gelato Home Décor was born. More than stunning homewares, Sally seeks to inspire others –  and that she does.

Frank and the Noble Park Community Centre accessible garden: Frank is the team leader at Noble Park Community Centre. The garden is designed for all ages and abilities - and means passionate green thumbs like Frank can learn lots about growing plants. They grow all sorts there - many of which go back into NPCC's kitchen for its wonderful cooking programs.

The accessible garden was supported as part of the Australian Government's Stronger Communities Program.

Noble Park Community Centre's Knitting Club: Hotham locals who meet weekly to knit beanies (and teddies) for premature babies (and more!).

This is Peter, an inspirational Hotham local. He is also one of the growing population of young Australians to be affected by bowel cancer.

Peter is now well and on a mission to spread the word: about bowel cancer symptoms, about advocating for yourself and the importance of catching bowel cancer early.

Meet Jo, a remarkable Hotham local who considers herself one of the lucky ones.

Despite being diagnosed with bowel cancer at 30, Jo is now well and remains an advocate for all with terrible disease. She wants everyone, especially women who can sometimes be dismissed as having other health issues, to be aware of the symptoms and take them seriously.
